The world needs better leaders in every sphere of life. Leadership development training programs try to fulfill this need, by helping trainees to inculcate and sharpen qualities in themselves that would transform them into effective leaders. A leadership development program can be very helpful, when designed keeping in mind, the requirements and present leadership levels of individual participants.

Polishing through leadership developement training

For example, there are people who already have qualities that should be present in a leader. Such people only need some polishing. The training should make them aware of their qualities and how they could use them to become effective leaders.

On the other hand are people, who have opposite qualities, they may not be bold or assertive enough. They may show reluctance in taking initiative and following by example. Such people need more intensive coaching, to make them realize the pitfalls of their attitudes and adapt more effective qualities.

Dissatisfaction after a leadership development program

Many people come out dissatisfied from leadership development training, because the programs they participate in, take a very generic approach to training. They measure all participants in the same scale.

Therein lies the problem, since a leadership development program should help its participants in restructuring there behavior and attitudes, it should address the individual participants. Now this is easier said than done. Habits are difficult to outgrow, changing attitudes is tougher still.

This is why, while designing a leadership development program, the trainers should give importance to making it as customizable as possible. Leadership development training should ideally be rigorous, and challenge the participants’ existing attitudes that are holding them back, from becoming effective leaders.

If successfully completing leadership development training is challenging, designing an effective leadership development program is equally tough, if not more.
